Freelance career
Ronan is a regular contributor to National Geographic, authored a travel column for National Geographic Magazine, and is currently writing and photographing two books for HarperCollins US.
A travel journalist and photographer with 20 years' experience, based in Perth, Australia, he writes and shoots for major media outlets across the world, with his work having taken taken him to more than 60 countries.
He’s contributed stories and photography to National Geographic, CNN, BBC, Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, The New York Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Toronto Star, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, Forbes etc.
Newspaper career:
In 2003, Ronan completed a journalism degree at Murdoch University in Perth and then worked as a journalist for 9 years at daily newspapers in Australia, including 7 years at The West Australian, the country's second biggest newspaper.
During his newspaper career Ronan held the roles of chief crime reporter, political writer, and features writer.
Personal:
Born to Irish immigrant parents, Ronan grew up in Perth, Australia, attended Government schools, and paid his own way through university.
After his newspaper career, he spent 10 years living between Ireland and Thailand, while travelling the globe for work, but has now returned to Perth.
Ronan is surrounded by three wonderful women - wife, mother and sister - and acts the fool with his son and brother.
He is consumed by sport, having spent 25 years playing competitive cricket, basketball and Australian football, but recently retired from team sports to fixate on golf.
